Kitchen Design Details That Can Do the Trick
The most important kitchen design trick is to put function first, always! There is no absolute right or wrong way to design a kitchen, except if it doesn’t function well. If you get that part right, then here are some other expert kitchen design tricks to help you get the most out of your kitchen renovation.
Storage
One of the biggest mistakes most people make during the design stage of their new kitchen is not adding enough storage options. There is no such thing as too much storage! Too little however, is going to clutter up your new kitchen and make your kitchen renovation not as valuable to your home as it should be.
Lighting
Simply adding in basic overhead lighting is not enough for a kitchen. Basic overhead lighting can cast shadows and be dull. Consider pendant lights over your benchtop, under cabinet lighting and enough ceiling lighting to brighten the space, make it welcoming and keep it functional.
Last, but not least, go with LED lighting whenever and wherever possible (which is pretty much everywhere). This modern technology is the Einstein of function and practicality combined with the George Clooney of good looks and style. You really can’t go wrong with a mix like that.
Power
There is nothing more frustrating than outlets, switches and power points not being located where you need them the most. Making sure all of your appliances have the outlets and fittings that they need is essential, but so too is it for you. Consider a power point on the end of your island, or switches being located at convenient locations. No matter what it is, you want to make sure your kitchen has the basics in the correct places to make your functional designed kitchen actually function.
Counter Space
Like storage, not having enough usable counter space is big no-no when it comes to kitchen design. You want your new kitchen to be a space people have room to move in, have conversations and entertain in. When there’s no counter space, none of that is going to happen. Make sure your kitchen layout has ample spare counter space!
Garbage
There’s no bigger eyesore, nor bigger faux pas than forgetting to plan a spot for your bins. Whether it’s a built-in space for your garbage bin or in the sink cabinet, so long as it has a spot it’s a win. If it’s forgotten, it’ll be there to remind you every day…
